Cement Sector in Jordan
Cement sector in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is one of the most dynamic industrial sectors that meet development requirements. It is characterized by its geographical distribution in the Kingdom, taking into account vicinity to major consumption centers, and in line with national programs for development in all parts of the country.
Cement industry in the Kingdom began in 1951 with the establishment of Jordan Cement Factories in Fuheis region (near the capital Amman), which began started production in 1954 with a capacity of 60,000t of clinker, which increased to 0.8Mt in 1982. With the integration of Rashadya cement plant within Jordan Cement Factories, total design capacity reached around 4.4Mt of clinker.
The Kingdom also produces white cement through Arab Company for White Cement Industry (a joint Syrian-Jordanian company) at a capacity of 125,000tpa of white cement.
During the past three year, the Kingdom witnessed the establishment of new cement companies; namely, Al Rajhi Cement Holding (2.2Mta of cement), Qatrana Cement Company (1.7Mta of cement), and Northern Cement Company (grinding only) at a capacity of 1Mta of cement, which would raise capacities to more than 10Mta.
